Mountains are like people more than we think
Take the mighty Himalayas, the Sahyadris, or the Alps.
Mountains are like people.
.
Take the mighty Himalayas, the Sahyadris, or the Alps.
The mighty massive Himalayas are the gentle giants of time gone by. They can be moody and lethal at times but at others, they just are. They be and let you be but don’t tolerate fools.
.
Our beloved Sahyadris by contrast are young, rugged and mysterious. You don’t really get to know them until you are up, close and personal. They hide routes, and they hide secrets. The layers are revealed as you climb and then suddenly you are at the very top. They speak to you of folklore through rustling dry grass, pitter patter rain and gusty winds. And they love having more of their kind for company.
.
The Alps are the most glamorous of them all. They know what to wear and when. Huge plains of #greens at the foothills, thickets of trees in the middle and snowy, rocky outcrops at the crown. They are as tolerant as the European folk that stay around their many massifs, letting all sorts of flowers grow, streams flow and wildlife to run around.
.
A common thread runs through all these facades of rock stone and soil. They are vulnerable but can’t be messed with. They allow you to come close but remain guarded about their many secrets. Be as it may that they are different characters, they are mountains after all.
