My Classic Italian Holiday

My Classic Italian Holiday

Taking advantage of the fact that my niece had gone to Milan, Italy for studies, I and a friend made a plan to travel there. Here is day by day plan of our 18 day classic Italian Holiday from Milan to Rome via Venice, Florence, Bologna, and Pisa.

Sept 16 – Flight to Milan via Etihad.

Sept 17 – Arriving at Milan at 13:30 local time. Time for rest and evening stroll.

Sept 18 – Wandering around Milan. The Duomo, Modern Milan, Castello della Esporeza. Appertivo!

Sept 19 – Lake Como Visit. Took the train from Milan to Cadorna and then boarded a ferry for 3/4 day Lake Como tour. Evening train back to Milan.

Sept 20 – Cenaclo Viciano – The Last Supper visit. Book tickets online or over phone much in advance here. Followed this by a visit to Musee Scienza – Science Museum. Rest of the day at leisure to stroll around Milan.

Sept 21 – Train to Venice and day at leisure in the city. We wandered over bridges, canals, narrow streets and then had google maps take us back to our hotel. It was located canal side and we spent the event with wine, watching boats go by.

Sept 22 – Today was a long list of sites to see all within walking distance. We started with a walk to San Marco square, Rialto Bridge, Dodge Palace and Bridge of Sighs. There is so much to take in and from the square you can see the Murano island at a distance. It is famous for its unique glass works.

Sept 23 – We left Venice for Florence with a side stop at Bologna. After leaving our luggage at the station, we walked around the city of Bologna. It is perhaps worth a days stay but we were eager to move on to Florence.

Sept 24 – Florence is a beautiful city with so much to see. We had the Uffizi and the Academia lined for day one with the famous Duomo and the Lindt shop nearby, San Giovanni square and Ponte Veccio. It was tiring but fulfilling day.

Sept 25 – Today was a day at leisure and we indulged in some window shopping and actual shopping. We crossed the bridge to the other side of Florence. There was a marathon in town.

Sep 26 – Another day of leisure to repeat the sights that we liked and we ended up at the Duomo again. Such magnificence.

Sept 27 – Train to Pisa for a look at the tower and back. Fabulous dinner at Mercato Centrale with other Italian families. Late night train to Rome.

Sept 28 – Vatican here we come. Half day Vatican tour with night view of Colosseum and Palatine hill and the Roman Forum.

Sept 29 – Today was a day to roam around Rome taking in the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Spagne, the Pantheon and other sights.

Sept 30 – Our last day at leisure for packing and shopping.

Oct 1 and 2 – Travel back to Mumbai.
